    Win 8.1 Pro Install

I now have had the Win8.1 install process download for about an hour, briefly start installing and then going back to downloading - three times now. Maybe the servers are overwhelmed. Anyone see this when they tried to install? I am running Win8/64 Pro now.

Not here. Yesterday morning I did my PC. Relatively quick download, then the install. On my wife's PC, a VERY slow download last evening, entire download, then install started as well. Once the install started, did not download anything further.

In the morning my download was less than an hour, in the evening her download was greater than 5 hours. This has to have been the difference between morning low server use, and evening server getting slammed.

I started at around 11 AM, GMT (6 AM EST). Download was rather fast, with download speeds between 3 MBytes / sec and 6 MBytes / sec.

I was using a local account. I tried using a MS account, and that refused to do anything. I can see the "Fee Upgrade to 8.1" in the store, but when I select it, it shows a page saying that all installs are complete. Is there any way to directly download the update package?

If you have a backup image of your Windows 8.0 system, restore that and then you can upgrade "free" (through the Store) to Windows 8.1

Depends what you had before that: Update from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1

Many places. Just do a search online for Win 8.1 and see how many sites come up. Newegg seems to be a reliable site that is as reasonably priced as others, or you can simply go to the MS Store and buy it (Not the app store on your PC. Perhaps you can get it there as well).

Just be sure what you are buying. The OEM version is generally for one PC only and cannot be moved to a different PC. This used to be called the System Builders edition. I believe the one listed in the MS Store is the full retail edition that can be moved.

I am going to Refresh my system - it is caught in a loop downloading, failing to install (no error messages) and restarting the download process again and again and again. It has been doing it for two days now after multiple reboots. Too much weird stuff is going on. Wish I had Win7.
