    Multiple OS on same PC

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes...
I would like to set up a PC with 3 partitions:
    Win 95 & Office 97
    Win 95 & Office 2000
    Win 2000 & Office 2000
(don't worry why I need them - just believe!!).
I've seen dual boot systems but never triple boot systems. Is this possible? is done in a similar way to setting up dual boot systems ?

    Many thanks in advance.

Since you need two with Windows 95, I would use a boot manager such as "Boot Magic" that comes with Partition magic. This will allow you to have 3 different "C" drives and the others can not be seen by the other boots.

But if you need to share files you will need a fourth partition so you can have a "D" drive to place these files on.

    Dave,
Many thanks. Are there any particular pitfalls I should watch out for when doing this ?

If you are going to use ALL of them for internet access and e-mail you need to set up a common e-mail folder and or file, which means you will need to use the SAME e-mail program in each OS and boot. I know you will have problems sharing a common PST file between Outlook 97 and Outlook 2000 and most likely between OE 95 and OE 2K. You will need to install a version of IE that you can run in both Win 95 and 2K

    Dave,
Thanks again. I don't have to worry about any BIOS or Shutdown changes, do I ? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm new to this particular game.

    Go to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/multiboot1.html>http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/multiboot1.html</A>
This is a great write up about multi booting and I referr to it all the time.

Since you cannot multi boot Win 95 and Win 98, can two different partitions contain Win 95 and have them both bootable?
For a primary reference source on multibooting the MS KB article :<A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q217/2/10.ASP> Q217/2/10</A> is essential reading.

Re: Multiple OS on same PC

    Here's what I did:

    1. Win 98 was installed on C drive with Office 97.
    2. Purchased another hard drive, installed Win 2000 of the F drive.

    3. Installed Office 2000 under Win 2000 on the F drive.

    4. I expect to install another Win 2000 on drive G in which I would install Office 2002.

Did not use Boot Magic, just normal Win 2000 install.

Only way to make multiple verions of Office FULLY co-exist is to install each in a separate partition.

You may end up with different drive letter assignments for Win 95 and Win 2000.

    Howard,
    Many thanks for you help.
I guess I must have another problem as one of my partitions (Win95/Office 97) has started rebooting instead of shutting down and I've had the 3 1/2 floppy drive replaced by a 5 1/4 drive.
    Thanks again.

I find the MSFT Press book Windows 2000 Resource Kit to be helpful.

Re: Multiple OS on same PC

    Hi
You did not reply to my earlier question. In your original specs you had TWO Win 95 OSs. I'm not at all convinced that this is a viable proposition. Did you read the MS KB article I gave you the URL for? Win 95 and Win 98 cannot co-exist, so I have an inkling the same may be true for 2 Win 95s. Might explain your present symptoms, as they will both be trying to use the same boot-file.

Triple boot systems are definitely workable : I have 98SE, 2kP and XPP all on the one physical drive - but in different logical ones. I would not be able to add Win 95 in a simple manner, if at all.

    Merc,
Many thanks for the help. The MS article loks very useful and could explain why I'm experiencing such problems.
I'll be back to lounge if I don't get this sorted out !!
Thanks to everyone for their assistance.

I don't think that you can have two Win 95s.
I'd suggest purchasing a copy of the MSFT Press Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

    Check at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bestbookbuys.com>http://www.bestbookbuys.com</A> for best price, usually at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bookpool.com.>http://www.bookpool.com.</A>
