    Open Dialog (2002)

I have been testing Word 2002 and have run across an irritant. The first time during a session I choose Open, the Open dialog box does not pop up. The Word indicator in the taskbar is flashing and I have to click on it before the open dialog box comes up. After the first time I have no more problems. Any ideas?

    Thanks

No ideas here -- but we have been seeing this with other dialogs that integrate with Word, such as the Outlook message window when using send as email attachment, or when using a third party redline program. There does seem to be a problem with bringing the active window to the front. I'll be interested in seeing what others have to say about this.

Do you have Tools>Options>View, Windows in Taskbar checked or unchecked?

    Re: Open Dialog (2002)

I had it checked but I unchecked it and it does the same thing. I played with it a little more and it seems that when I open Word, it is not the active Window. Whatever program I was in when I opened Word is still the active window even though Word is on top (hope this makes sense). If I click in Word and make it active, I don't have this problem. Any ides why Word is not the active Window when I open it?

It is Windows, not Office problem. I presume you are running Windows XP. From Control Panel, open TweakUI (if it is not there, download and install it), and on Explorer window uncheck "Prevent Windows from stealing focus" checkbox.
