I have been using the TechNet version of 8.1 for about two months now. I set it up with a Microsoft account and have not had any problems using it to access shared resources on my home network.

Yesterday I realized that I needed to create a PDF using my network scanner. The scanner allows sending a PDF directly to any networked computer using either SMB or FTP. The scanner logs into the computer and sends the PDF to a shared folder. I set up a SCANS folder, set permissions for Everyone to have Read/Write privilege, and then attempted to scan a document. I keep getting an SMB login error. Is this because I don't have a local account for it to sign on with? I can't find anything that talks about how SMB communicates with a Windows 8.1 computer.
