    Links dying

I'm having a strange problem in Vista. After I boot, everything works fine. Then after awhile (sometimes several days; sometimes a day), shortcuts and links stop working. Open programs continue working, but clicking on anything in the quick launch bar, start menu, or desktop, gets no response. Only rebooting gets them back.

When that happens, open Task Manager, and kill all instances of explorer.exe, then choose File -> New Task (Run...), type explorer.exe again. Do links work then?

Thanks. I will try that as soon as it happens again. Any idea what could be causing it in the first place?

Hard to say. First, I would like to establish, without doubt, that the issue is with Windows Explorer. Once that is established, we can look for reasons, although that may be hard to establish.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I was gone for a week with the computer shut down. It's been on for 3 days now and it hasn't happened yet. I'm sure it will though, so as soon as it does I will do as you suggest and then report back.

Don't worry, as long as it's not happening, that's fine .
