Purple streak down the middle of my monitor

    Hi,

I just disconnected all the cables to my computer, untangled the wires, and put everything back together again. However, there is now a purple streak half-way down the middle of my screen . Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

If its wide (a color band) it's most likely a connection issue. If it teenie weenie one or two pixels wide it's stuck pixels. Option three is I dunno. I don't think accidentally getting it too close to a strong speaker magnet warps the color like it did to CRTs?

    Hi F.U.. downtown,

When you say a "connection issue," do you mean something like a one of the cords plugged into the wrong socket?

    Thanks for your response.

I have had similar problems and it always turned out to be a bad video card..

Of course that's been my experience but it could be different with yours.

Ya it could even just be a faulty video port and not the whole card but since you just disconnected and reconnected, and presumably everything was fine before, cable, damaged pins (if not display port or HDMI), or the connector is not all the way on the port. Sometimes a video card is just off slot enough that it strikes the case plate before it fully seats.

If none of those things can be of issue, you've tried another video cable and another port if possible and still get the same results then it's video card or monitor.

Try using a different monitor if you have one available.

Lenovo just told me that the monitor is still under warranty; they are sending me a new monitor. I will see if the problem persists after connecting up the new monitor. If it does, then it's probably the video card as you suggested.

UPS delivered my new monitor last night. I connected it to the computer and its picture was perfect. No purple streak. I must have damaged the screen when I was moving it after I disconnected everything from my computer to straightened out the wiring.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
