    Removing old OS files

My wife has an old Dell D620 notebook computer. It originally had Win2000 OS, but some time ago WinXP was installed. No real effort was made to remove any Win2000 files, other than what might have been removed or overwritten installing XP.

My question is simply put as follows: Is there any way -- manually or with some software app -- that can be used to remove the old Win2000 files on the computer?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Lounge.

If anything there may be a Windows.old folder in your system drive. This can be removed by using the Disk Cleanup app. This video explains how to remove it:

Although it's for 7, should be similar for XP.

If I recall correctly, Win2000 installed most of it's files into a "c:\WinNT" folder by default. Windows XP uses C:\Windows.
If you have both you should be able to safely delete the winnt folder, but 1st check to see that there aren't any recent files in it.
