    Finding Unique Entries

From the advanced filter I know I can find unique entries, but I have (1st of several tasks) 650,000 rows of names in column A. I want the unique names in column B. That exercise takes so long, that I'm forced to interrupt it.

There must be a better way?! [he says hopefully]. It is VBA?

In my experience VBA is much slower than the built-in excel routines...

Is a pivot table faster than adv filter? (create on a new sheet, Col A as a row field, count of col A as value) then copy the unique items and paste special values in Col B of the original sheet)
