    gadgets

I am running Win 7 premium on a Dell 17" laptop at home. I am listed as the administrator in user acct control. I am not part of a network except for home group. When I try to add a gadget I get a message saying gadgets are managed by system administrator. How can I add gadgets (like weather)?

How do you try to add them? Whatever app you use to try to add the gadgets, right click it to start it and choose "Run as Administrator".

I right clicked on desktop and selected "gadgets" and when I do, I get window saying they are managed by system administrator. I have no idea who that is.

As far as I know gadgets no longer will run in Windows because of security concerns..

Well, I am currently running a Clock, a disk and cpu meter and a weather gadget with no problems on my WIN 7 64 bit system.

There was indeed an update that disabled gadgets -- but there was also a workaround, because up till last week I (Win7, 64-bit) also had the clock, CPU meter, and weather gadget enabled. They've disappeared again just a day or so ago, however, and while the Gadgets dialog is still accessible via right-click, attempting to add the gadgets back has no effect. (Interestingly, the Windows Media Center "gadget" is still here, but looks slightly different.)

ETA: And a bit of prowling via Google turns up a post on Technet (scroll to the bottom) dated just last week that suggests installing IE 11 breaks the Gadgets hotfix all over again.

Well, I got rid of all of mine rather then take a chance of getting attacked just because I wanted a clock on my desktop.

The IE note might explain why I can still run the three gadgets previously mentioned. I still have IE 9 and since I use Firefox almost exclusively, I have no reason to update IE.
I was unaware of attack exposures due to gadgets. Can someone expand on the issue?
