Perform a full system AV/AM scan with at least two independent tools. many malware are capable of disabling firewalls.

See if you can't get "SFC" to repair any potential damage as well, the default Windows 7 firewall is built into the OS.
    See this link for details.

Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

Build your own system; get everything you want and nothing you don't.
    Latest Build:

I have Windows 7 32bit and I prefer to use the effective and free Zone Alarm Firewall, available fron cnet, a trustwothy and reliable download site, at this link http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0...form%3DWindows
Download and install Zone Alarm Free, It will configure itself, Zone Alarm disables Windows firewall. Zone Alarm is a more effective firewall anyway. Now all internet traffic is monitored and a popup will appear every time a programe requires internet access, Useful for any type of Malware trying to call home.
Further down the page from the link is also the Zone Alarm free firewall and antivirus, Highly recommended be Cnet editor.

Unless you have disabled the firewall in Win 7, or installed another firewall, it gets enabled automatically. Are you sure it's not running? I would check the Action Center (looks like a flag in the taskbar area), or perhaps in the up carat area (^) on the taskbar.
