    Deleting Assigned Tasks (Out2000/CW)

    Ok here's my dilemma:

    Using Outlook 2000/CW/Exchange 2000
    1) I create a task and assign it to my co-worker. I ask for a copy of the task to be put on my Task List so I can monitor it.
    2) He accepts the task and I see it on my Task List as not started.
    3) He works on the task and modifies the percent complete (say he maske it 50% complete). I can see this change/update.
    4) Now the problem develops when he deletes the task w/o sending me notification. I do understand that once he accepts the assiged task he is the new owner of it.
    5) When he deletes the task, I don't receive any notification of the deletion and I still see it on my Task List as 50% completed (or based on the last update he made to the task).

Question: How can I prevent this from happening? Imagine this between a boss and his/her employees. Boss assigns tasks, employees accept them, begin working on them and just decide to delete them and the boss has "no knowledge" of the deletion. Of course, the boss should be communicating with the employees to check on the status of the tasks...but that doesn't always happen.

Any help is much appreciated! EMail to bwasson@drvc.org

Anyone have any thoughts on my original post/dilemma? It's been up there a while without a response...
    Thanks!

    I don't have an answer I'm afraid, only my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> worth.
I think that what you are asking for is not possible. Outlook seems only to notify the originator when the assignee amends the task status - but deleting the task is not an update action. I see your point, but it seems that it has to be up to the person implementing the task to notify as 100% complete before deleting the task. Otherwise, it's up to the originator to spot that this task is not being progressed and chase.
No answer to your valid point, but I think this is the way Outlook's logic has been programmed.

I agree. You'd have to have a custom coded task to do what you want.

We treat this as a training issue, and beat up on the users with a big stick when they forget they are supposed to "Complete" not "Delete" assigned tasks. (It seems to be a universal behavior; a lot of our CRM users do the same thing, then don't understand why history reports show they did nothing all month...)
