WLM v2009: junk vs blocked senders? Are they the same?

    Hi,

WLM v2009: junk vs blocked senders? Are they the same?

When I receive emails that are not automatically blocked by WLM, I highlite them and select JUNK from the menu.
Are they automatically blocked from me receiving them again?

In other words : "are they added to the blocked senders list"?

    cheers,

    klx

    RoadRunner,

Thanks for the quick response & assistance.

Please, what do yon mean by: Do you use WLM signed in

Also, can you point me to a site, etc. where I can view/download some operating functions, specs, etc.

I installed it once and it was totally different from version 9 & the old OE. And I have specific business reasons for staying as close as I can to the orig OE which I've successfully, and very efficiently used for around 25 yr. If I can get some instructions as I mentioned above, I sure can apply some "marketing imagination" to make it work for my information management business.

I greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Usually a little start & I am able to synthesize the the rest.

    cheers,

    klx

I'm very sorry for all the questions, but I ran into many problems when I did a similiar install in sept 2013, and I want to be thorough and listen to people more experienced than me. "My experience is above the code & the hardware" & I don't want do something stupid.

I run WLM as a POP3 acct & before I do any updgrading or re-installing WLM from v9 to v12,
I have some questions only because of the lack of info & the ensuing problems encountered.

    WLM FILE LOCATIONS 11-10-2013

    C DRIVE
    Program files
    Windows Live
    Windows Mail

    C DRIVE
    Users?\...
    Windows Live
    Contacts
    Windows Live Contacts
    ?\...New
    Contacts.edb
    Windows Live Mail
    Windows Mail

G DRIVE Moved storage folders to G 9-14-2013

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE DONE ENSURE A SMOOTH UPDATE..."JUST IN CASE"

    Created restore point.
Downloaded the latest installer from your link.*
Backed up contacts to a csv file. (could not find a std wab file like in OE)
Could not find export blocked senders tab.
Backed up my email accts to iaf files.
Colorized critical folders for easier identification.
Did a plethora of screen captures & paths of all WLM folders.

Any suggestion of what else to do?

    QUESTIONS:

*Is this an update or an "uninstall v9" & "re-install v12"?
If it's an UPDATE: Will it import all my email contacts & my email accts & blocked senders?
If it's RE-INSTALL: Can I import all my email contacts & my email accts?
Does WLM v12 allow me to import & export a csv blocked senders file?

    cheers,

    klx

To be safe, make an image backup before attempting the upgrade.

    Jerry,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I'm not sure how how to do it. I have w7 pro & that has an image program. I stored some image BU's on an external hd and could not really see how to restore. My HD has 5 partitions. I'm also running the XP virtual machine.

I'll just continue "as is" if I can't get my questions answered, which is ok. WLM seems to be a stepchild any and I only use it because I needed certain funcunalities in OE. Any way I live by the K.I.S.S. principle. Going to chk B&N to see if they have any books I can browse thru.

I can not & do not want to use web mail as I have & host several domains, among other reasons.

    cheers,

    klx

Hi klx, we seem to be jumping ahead too quickly to correctly solve your problem, so lets start again from the beginning.
    -
Get a Microsoft Account, called Outlook.com, store all your contacts on your new account, using
.CSV file format to export / import them from your account to WLM.

Use the Outlook.com account to sign-in to WLM. It will also add your account to WLM.

As your already using POP you wont have any problems.

    Roadrunner,

Outlook.com is a web mail acct & I don't want my contacts located in a cloud/web. Several of my busn colleagues had their Hotmail, Yahoo accts hacked & their email accts. solicited by all kinds of scum, and have caused untold problems & losses for my colleagues. I don't have time for more conflicts.

    My orig question was simple:

When I receive emails that are not automatically blocked by WLM, I highlite them and select JUNK from the menu.
Are they automatically blocked from me receiving them again?

In other words : "are they added to the blocked senders list"? Yes or No

You guys have been responsive & helpful and If I have to live with what I've got "so be it". At least I can go on working.

I have another PC I try testing WLM v12 when I get some time and will get back to this forum.

    cheers,

    klx

Hi klx, as you are not using a Microsoft Account to sign in to WLM it wont know who you are. So your mail you mark as junk or blocked senders will not be remembered so the mail from all senders will be treated as being the first instance.
    -
Click the down arrow in the blue box top left and select 'Safety options'.

    1.jpg
    -
Now look at your 'Safe senders' And 'Blocked senders' tabs, they will be empty.

    Roadrunner,

I really appreciate help the you and this forum has giving me in order to solve this "simple" problem.

    1) my wlm screen does not look anywhere near like the image in your post.
    2) wlm mail has worked fine for the last 20 mo. since I went to w7 pro w/xp virtual.
    3) recent further research indicated that wlm12 has the same low contrast, "Easter bunny", poor legibility, readability, non-customizable, color scheme which in not acceptable for professional business accuracy.

So I have decided to drop the idea of going to wlm12 and test wlm12 & other pop3 email programs on my backup PC till I find one.

You guys have been very nice and I truly appreciate the help you have given me.

    cheers,

    klx

    Roadrunner,

Attached is screen capture comparison of your WLM inbox & my WLM v9 inbox. As you can see they are totally different. Your screen shot is small and hard to read so I may be mistaken and your "inbox" has no menu bar. I find "options" under the menu bar heading of "tools".

I prefer the "classic" look of menu bar, easier, faster, less clerical mistakes as I work on a 28" wide screen HD monitor for improved readability. I wear glasses and was just fitted with new specs 2 wks ago, 20/20.

Please check out the screenshot and let me know if we are talking about the same software.

cheers & Thanks for the quick response.

From your image, it shows your using an older version which is not maintained by MSoft. The 2012 version is much improved. If you click any image it will be enlarged.
