Problems using sound recorder on windows 7 upgrade:

    Hi Guy's,

I have recently upgraded my windows 7 machine....new gigabyte motherboard, Pentium4 3.8ghz 4g ram, new ssd and fresh install of windows-7.

On my old windows 7 computer I was able to use the old xp "sndrec32" program for editing wav files on my music disc which worked fine, but after installing it on my new windows-7 computer when I try to edit a wav file I keep getting the message "not enough memory to complete this operation. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory and try again".

I would have thought that the 4gb memory would have inproved operations not limit them! (my old computer had 2gb ram)

Would anybody be able to help me get this program to work on my new computer...maybe by a command line in the enviornment variables in advanced settings.

    regards,

    Keith.

Have you tried changing the compatibility settings for sndrec32?

Your problem may be caused by the 'desktop heap limitation' in Windows 7. This bears no relation to the amount of physical RAM installed. The attached link will show you how to fix this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246

How large is the .wav file? I find only a few programs will handle any .wav file larger than 2 GB without spurious errors.

Hi, It doesn't seem to matter about the file size, even if I record for a few seconds it still shows the same error message, on my old computer I could edit a wav file 110MB with no problems.
