    Windows Vista update question

    I installed 3 updates----KB2862152; KB2868626; KB2876331-----on 12/10….They were listed in the November batch through Windows Auto Update….

The update process ended (as usual) saying updates were successful and I should restart my computer etc…..
1--Restart took a little longer than usual…..2—Some of the colors in the ‘themes’ changed including the Quick Launch Tool Bar…..3—A pop-up warning “Failed to Connect to Windows Event Notification Service”…

In the Event Viewer were multiple warnings…..For each of the 3 updates----“…..Is not an application for this system”

Researching through the maze of screens on M/S website for each KB, they each stated they were intended for XP SP3 only; No mention of Vista…..

I did a System Restore……That got my color theme back…..But, the 3 updates are still listed in the Updates Installed through “Windows Update”…..

Should I Un-install any/all 3 updates.....???......Thanx in advance for advice....ps----My system appears to be working fine; no known problems.....

    Hi,

If the computer is working normally now, I would leave them alone.

All three ARE security updates which apply to Vista as well as XP (and Windows 7/8):

It is highly unlikely that Windows Update would offer you a patch that is solely for a different OS than what you are running. The "Applies To" section for KB2862152, KB2868626, & KB2876331 shows that they all apply to all supported versions of Windows.

It is up to you to decide if you want to apply the fix. Personally, I'd install them one at a time. You can find the appropriate download links for the version which applies to your OS at KB2862152 security advisory, KB2868626 security bulletin MS13-095, & KB2876331 security bulletin MS13-089.

Yes, of course, I see your point (after Bruce's comment). I did presume they were installed, as the user stated it.

Maybe he can try each one individually as you advised, just to make sure they are actually installed.
