    Hiding a Column (Word 2000)

Does anyone know if it is possible to hide a column in a Word table? I want it to behave as it would in Excel, without using an embedded Excel worksheet.

I want to be able to type in a figure (not have this appear) and then use this figure in a table formula.

I know I could format the text in the column as white, but I would prefer hiding the column.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Two suggestions:
    1) Put the data that you want to hide in either the first or last column, then move the table so that the column is outside the printed area.

    2) If that cannot be done, then pitch the table and use an embedded Excel table.

BTW, the slickest way is to save the file, delete the column, print the file, and then undo the delete. However, this won't work in your case, since you are referencing data in the column. HTH --Sam

You can't hide columns, but you can hide rows (select them, then check "Format > Font > hidden"). Perhaps you can use that somehow?

Thanks Sam. I am combining your suggestion1 to put the data in the last column, with Klaus' suggestion to use hidden text, and I think that will work.

    Just a little bit of lateral thinking ... <img src=/S/joy.gif border=0 alt=joy width=23 height=23>
