    Windows 8.1

    Hi,

I would like to know if Windows 8.1 upgrade is part of the Microsoft periodic downloads to update Windows 8. If not, where is a good site for me to download and install Windows 8.1?

Thank you. Happy Holidays to everyone.

If you already have Windows 8 installed, do all of the Windows updates, then go to the Store tile. It should be available to install from there.

    Hi,

Windows 8.1 is only available through the Windows 8 store. You need to visit the store and explicitly choose the upgrade. If you are not offered the upgrade when you visit the store, then you need to download any Windows update available. Your computer needs to be up to date with Windows updates, for you to be offered the 8.1 upgrade.

If you have an OEM machine then you should first check your computer vendor's support site to see if they support drivers for 8.1 as an example, as of yet Acer do not support Bluetooth drivers for 8.1 and many appear to have had problems since the upgrade whereas it's been okay for others, but reading through these FAQs before you upgrade may save you some heartache later http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/w...e-to-windows-8

    True, so true!

But what many users don't realize is that 8.1 is not just and update to 8.0, like a Service Pack would be.

Windows 8.1 is a totally NEW OS, and many Motherboards and peripherals, that did support 8.0, will not support it.

Many users have snarled up their PC's by attempting an upgrade to 8.1 without checking for compatibility first.

Windows 8.1 is still a work in progress and many an upgrade has turned out badly.

That's why I would only install it on a blank hard drive, keeping my 8.0 drive in a safe place, just in case that 8.1 doesn't work out.

    Just a thought.

    Happy Holidays!
