    Office 2013 Click-to-run

Do all the versions of Office 2013 use click-to-run to manage updates, or do some use the traditional Windows Update?

    Thanks

If you install Office from a CD / DVD, you will get the traditional Windows update. If you install it from the Web, it then it will update itself without using Windows Update.

OK thanks. All I have seen in retail stores is the little box that has a card, and you install it from the web. So those must all have been click to run.

How often does click to run download updates?

Hmm... it seems to update pretty much as often as the other version, it's just the mechanism that is different.

A good site for tracking updates is the Office Sustained Engineering blog.

OK thanks. Does CTR let you know when it is installing updates?

Usually a pop up shows when it is doing it but I am not sure it doesn't show only when you try to use an Office app while it is updating.

There is a popup from the notification area when Office updates are being installed. You'll be requested to shut down any running software that will be updated by the Office update action.
