    setup problems

This is a repost of a problem I described on a previous thread. Still have NO solution.

I have XP pro installed. Everything was fine but now when trying to
install a program I get the following message and cannot continue with
    setup.
    Message:
"The win16 subsystem was unable to enter Protected mode, DOSX.EXE must
be in your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your PATH."

This occurs EVERY time I press "setup" no matter where the setup is
made from (cd-rom, hard drive, floppy etc.) or what I am trying to setup.
Sometimes I can induce a workaround for example if the cd-rom has
    autorum, the program will install.
What does all that mean and how can I fix it??

Reformat hd and reload XPP. That will get rid of the problem. Then reload only apps that run under XP.

    Re: setup problems

That sounds too dramatic. I have programs installed over the network that were specially installed at work by a third party (eg. connection to a program that operates through a SQL server). Re-installing all that would be expensive. Isn't there a way to CORRECT the problem ?

Is the program that you are trying to load Windows XP approved?

What program are you trying to install?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: setup problems

    yes
The problem occurs on ANY program I try and setup eg. Norton Antivirus. The only programs that "setup" are ones with some way of not clicking setup eg. ones that have an autorun from the CD such as office.
