    Win 8 File History Backups

Little confused on how I should do backups. Have Win 8 and portable HD

I do a complete image every month with a Paragon Image.
Would like to also backup My Documents, Favorites and Outlook 2007 contacts and personal folders once a week. This is really all I need.

I think Windows 8 file history can do this but not sure. I know it would have to backup up at least daily. But I will not keep my port HD plugged in all the time. Would only plug in once a week. Would file history save daily backups and automatically transfer to port HD?

Or do I once a week have to do everything manually as below.
    1. Outlook 2007 run its backup ( which backs up personal folders to my documents )
    2. Outlook 2007 run export file ( to send contacts file to my documents )
    3. Open Windows 8 file explorer and copy and paste MY Docs, Favorites to the portable HD.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Yes:

This includes “pausing” and “resuming” backups when ... the target storage device is connected/disconnected. I don’t even have to think about it, all of the device management and scheduling is handled by File History in Windows 8.

What Happens When You Disconnect the Backup Drive?
One of the coolest things about File History is that it works silently in the background, ... when you unplug the backup drive, File History stops working and it shows a discreet warning: "We can't finish copying your files. Connect your File History drive and refresh this page to continue."
When you plug the drive back, File History resumes backing up your data, silently.

I plug my Ext HD into my PC once per month, create my Image, then run File History. If the proper device is plugged in then File History will find it and all you have to do is choose Run.
