    icons not displaying properly

My desktop is displaying all generic icons. they look like small books and they are labeled with the program name.lnk. When I click on an icon it brings up an edit box and all the characters are unreadable. I can run the programs by going to the folder and double clicking on the .exe file. Any ideas what I did wrong and how to undo it.

Perhaps the batch file in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...e-rebuild.html will do it for you (which is safe), but read on through the article for further steps should it not.

Thanks for the help Sudo. The first step did not work, I had tried it several times before after finding another post about it. I had to download the registry file to restore the file association for the lnk files and it now works.
    Thanks,
    Fred
