Question Locked for editing by me - why?

Sometimes, when I open a spreadsheet.it displays the message that the spreadsheet is locked for editing by Ron - which is me. I do not understand why Excel is locking my spreadsheets for editing by myself. Is there some way to cancel this or to get around it, short of saving it with a new name. Any insight that anyone would care to share will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Ron,

Are you on a network? If so maybe someone else has the file open.
If you are not on a network you may already have the file open and minimized.

Not on a network. This message is received the first time I try to open the spreadsheet file, so it is not open or minimized.

Thanks Bruce. I will have a look the next time I go to work on these spreadsheets.
