    Sorting by category?

Is there no way to sort e-mails by category? That seems strange.

    Regards,

Which version of Outlook are you using?

I can sort by category in OL 2010 by right clicking on the "Arrange By" tab at the top of any folder.

Right click in a blank area next to "Subject" or any of the other column titles.

Joe, Category isn't one of the choices I get there.

    Chuck,

You may need to add categories to the list of fields being displayed.

Right click as you have done before and click on View Settings, click on columns and ensure that Categories is in the right hand list.

    Hmmm.

I've came across this from OutlookForums.com

you can't sort by categories because you can have multiple categories in the category field. You can group by Category.
The OP was talking about tasks but I can see the same being applied to emails/contacts etc.

Do you have multiple categories applied to different emails?

Browni, yes, I have a couple of instances with two category combinations, like an item categorized in Media and Finance. But no more than two -- but the point is why the h--- don't they tell you these things?

I found a workaround though: I set up Views based upon categories. Si I had a view, Media, that only has messages categorized in the Media category. Some items may in fact show up in multiple views, but since I am only working in one view at a time, that is not a big deal.

Anyhow, thanks for the help y'all.

    Chuck
