Unhappy Can't get to Network Properties

    Hi Loungers,

In the good old days (never thought I'd refer to W7 that way!) If you click the network icon in systray and right click one of the networks you can get to the Properties for the connection. Now I get a pretty list of networks but no right click ability.

I have installed StartX in frustration at the Metro interface.

    So the questions are:
    1. Can I get to Network Properties?
    2. Can I add it to StartX somehow?

    Thank you......................... liz

If you are running Windows 8.1 right click the start button and click Network Connections.

    Liz,

Just a thought... as I read the answers given to you (which saves me doing the same) I wonder if you have realised something...

None of the answers have anything to do w/ what you refer to as "the frustrating Metro interface". Nor is an unnecessary StartX aide in what you were seeking. Nothing changes in 8.1 (from Win7) regarding Network Properties, except easier to access.

Here's another approach possible in 8.1, for this and other things, too...

    Hit the Windows key
    Start typing Network
    Search appears
    > Network Connection Settings
Left Click on the Ethernet Connection & all the properties show, including the MAC (Physical) address.
OR you can Rt Clk > Properties & Details.

Win8.1 is a joy to navigate & find things. Use the Menu @ the Bottom-Left Corner +Rt Clk and get in the habit of typing what you seek on either the Start or Applications screens.

Again, the interface of Win8.1 is not a challenging obstacle nor is a 3rd party start thingy needed... unless one wanted to complicate something that is already slick out of the box.

    Cheers,
    Drew

As far as adding it to Start Menu X, if you can, it would be in the settings somewhere, something concerning customizing the start menu. Classic shell works a treat as I can add Network connections to the start menu and either have it display as a link or as a menu, whereby clicking on any of the connections takes one directly to that adapter's network properties.
It sounds like you are referring to a list of wireless networks though that may be connected to using the same adapter so that may not be exactly what you are looking for.
Sent from Windows ME thru Opera 10.63...just before they crashe

FUN, hello. Looking for status is a wild goose chase. In Control Panel, I went to Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> right click on it but no status. Jean.
