Office and Epson scanner stopped working together

Epson Perfection 3170 Photo, stopped working through Word 2000, and Publisher 2000, it as worked well for years this way.

The menus are still there Insert / picture / from Scanner but nothing happens.

I tried Detect and Repair with the scanner switch on, no difference

I tried changing the leads, made no difference, and in another usb point no difference all thought it said New Hardware Found and reinstalled it.

I tried it in Open Office and it works through it, saved the scan on the page and saved as a Word document, in Photoshop Elements it works OK

So the problem must be in Office

See if you can scan using another program -- Irfanview is a good program to test with.

In Irfanview, choose File then Select Scan / TWAIN Source. TWAIN is probably the best scan option.

    Then choose File then Acquire.

    Hi Mrjimphelps

Thanks for getting back to me

I can scan with other programs

I tried it in Open Office and it works through it, saved the scan on the page and saved as a Word document,
In Photoshop Elements 11 it works, and Photoshop 7.0
The problem is in Word 2000

When you downloaded word 2000 did you download it to a file then install it? If you did you have the installer. Re run the installer?

    Hi Philomel

Thanks for getting back to me

I installed Word 2000 from the disc, and the scanner work fine for a long time then just stopped stopped?
I tried reinstalling Word, when I found the scanner still worked, but it made no difference.

Perhaps it is time to upgrade to a later version of Word. If not, continue using OpenOffice.org. OOo handles most Word documents unless they are heavily formatted or contain extensive graphics. The only real problem I've found is that macros in Office won't work in OOo and vice-versa.

    Hi WFS

I am thinking of up grading to Windows 8.1, because I have a XP computer, but Windows 8 Advisor says a lot of my programs will not work in Windows 8. including my office 2000.

I could be a very dear upgrade
