    Web 3000 network

Is this something I need on my PC? The startup entry says it is from Microsoft, but does not really seem to be. The startup item w3knet.dll is in my C;/users/local/virtual store/windows folder. There is also an older version in C:/windows. The newer file was updated shortly after or during a Windows update I received today. Running W7 HP 64 bit. There is a whole lot of nothing regarding this on the internet.

    Thanks

Here is some information about w3knet.dll:

According to Trend Micro, it is "grayware". I gather that this means that it is something you don't want.

If you have a good AntiVirus program, you should make sure that it is up to date, and then do a full scan and clean on your computer. Or, you can download and install the latest Trend Micro Maximum Security trial version, and then use it to clean up your computer:

Thanks for the reply, it appears that I do not have Netsonic installed on my PC. Just the previously mentioned dll file. I turned off the startup for this dll and will see what happens. Before posting, I scanned the file with Malwarebytes and it did not report it as being malicious.

Bleeping Computer (a good anti-malware site) identifies it as undesirable advertising spyware:
