1. From Jan 2010 SAT

2 questions (probably simple for this crowd).

1. In a certain H.S., there are three times as many band members as orchestra members and twice as many orchestra members as jazz choir members. If no student can be enrolled in more than one of the three activities and there are 108 members in the three activities, how many students are in the band?

2. The integer x is the sum of 3 different positive integers, each less than 10. The integer y is the sum of 3 different positive integers, each less than 20. What is the smallest possible value of x/y ?

2. Regards

NotQuite

3. Nice work on the first one, NotQuite. You beat Maud to that one... :-)

4. For the second answer, there is some disagreement as to whether zero is considered a positive integer or neutral.

If zero is neutral then

If zero is positive then

5. zero is neither positive nor negative. So, without zero entering into the options, 3 DIFFERENT positive integers.

6. KW,

I twisted my conditions. If zero is considered positive then it would be the first spoiler whereas if zero is neither positive nor negative (Neutral) then the second answer would apply
