    Winsol2 and Win 8.1

My new laptop is shackled with win 8, and I have been able to make it acceptable with 8.1 and Classic Shell. Most of my old programs (even Office 2K) run well on it, but it won't run an old (Win 3?) solitaire that I like called Winsol2 that worked even on Win 7. I've tried all the make-compatible routines on Win 8.1, but it still refuses. Could it need an old Visual Basic that isn't included in Win8.1?

It's probably a 16-bit program, which Win8 won't run. Wonder if running XP (or win98) in a VM might be a possibility; worth a try.

Thank you, Ballpoint! I'll think about VM; just now it seems like a lot of trouble for a little game. Maybe if I find another program that won't run on Win 8.1 . . . .

Check the Microsoft store. There are quite a few free solitaire games including from Microsoft. You may find one or more that you like.
