750 gb ext. hard drive-attempting backup- only recognizes 32 gb

I tried to copy the win 8 image to my ext. hard drive. It told me it would erase everything else on the drive and at the time I was ok with that, but now win 8 will only recognize 32 gb on the drive (Toshiba 750gb) which means when I tried to backup using 'file history' it says I don't have enough space. Any one know what I should do? This is my first post and I am not an I T guy by trade so please be patient with me if I seem clueless at times.

Sorry!! Nevermind!!! Googled it and found I needed to open disk management and reformat the unallocated space to NTFS and name it. Ihavent tried to do any backups yet but I do think that will solve my problem.
