    Refresh feature in Windows 8

I used the refresh feature in W8 and it uninstalled office professional 2013. Go to control panel\programs\repair office=nothing! Any ideas on how to install office?

    Thanks

Refresh does that, it's a known consequence if doing a refresh. All desktop apps are lost, unless you create a custom refresh point.

How did you get Office 2013 installed initially?

If they didn't supply you with an install disk, contact the vendor and explain the situation.

You must have a Office 2013 key written somewhere, right? Was it Office 365? Do your computer manuals have any reference to it?

    Thanks guys!
Called MS and they wanted money. Why am I not surprised? Ran the install through the setup site for office again and this time it worked. All I've lost is some contacts that I didn't have backed up.
Can I just stick a flash drive in every time I use the computer and just write everything to the flash drive?

I am glad you have it back.

To protect against such circumstances, what we advise here is that you take images of your system regularly. Besides those, you can also take what you can call a baseline image, that is an image with your original setup, with all the apps you need, that you can then resort to, when you need.

You have different options to do this. You can rely on Windows 8 refresh feature, while taking refresh points along the way, and then just use a refresh point, when you need to refresh again. This process can be made easier if you use something like RecImg Manager.

A broader alternative would be to rely on a 3rd party imaging tool. There are free and paid tools used for this. Among the free, Macrium Reflect and EaseUS are among the most popular and these also have paid versions. Among the paid versions, another popular one is Acronis True Image (the one I use).
