Error in Most Office Programs (2000)

Whenever I attempt to navigate in Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Front Page but not Photodraw) by clicking on the arrow in the "Look In" window, I get the error shown. This for opening files and saving files. I can navigate by clicking in the big window or using the small icons on the bar.

I believe the problem started after moving back from IE6 to IE4 to get quicktime supported. I have since gone back to the new IE6. There was a warning that going back in versions of IE might cause conflicts with Office.

Previously, I tried to do an Office Repair and last night I reinstalled all of Office but I still get the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What version of Windows are you using?
KERNEL32 is one of the core Windows files. If you are using Win98, run SFC.EXE to check your Windows core files for corruptions.

Re: Error in Most Office Programs (2000)

Am using Windows 98 1st edition. I ran the file checker utility as suggested, found 9 files it pointed to as possibly corrupted and I restored them all from my Office disk. Shut down and rebooted tried to use the arrow and it did the same thing.
The first line in the detail of the error message is "Winword caused an invalid page fault in module etc. as shown in the graphic I sent before. This only occurs in Office. All my other programs work as they should and even PhotoDraw works OK

    Hi rdashner,
I had a user that was getting the same messages. I went to the Windows Update site and downloaded a few of the office updates. That fixed the problem. Unfortunately my answer is kind of voodoo as I can't remember which patches I installed. Could be worth a try if there is not a more specific answer from someone else though.
