Win XP for a postage meter after April 2014

    Hello,
I have a Windows XP SP3 machine that is connected to a weighing scale. It gets postage and customer information from stamps.com

The machine is not used for anything else, it is just used to print out postage for letters and packages.

Is it safe to use this machine after XP end of life (April 8, 2014) or do I need to get a new machine with Win 7 or 8?

It has a current Symantec Anti-Virus subscription until Symantec stops supporting XP off course. In other words, if I am not surfing or downloading programs, clicking on links in emails etc. is there still a danger of using an unsupported OS?

    thanks,
    LA-Jay

If there is no external access to the PC and it only never browses the internet there is no reason to stop using it, apart from the possibility of old hardware failing. I'd get an image backup so you can easily replace faulty hardware.

    cheers, Paul
