    Hi Roderunner,

I already have the version of Windows Live Mail you refer to, and have the same version of Movie Maker and Windows Live Photo Gallery, but every time I open Windows Live Mail a notification in the system tray refers to an available update and says click to install it. Out of curiosity I clicked the notification but got an error message to the effect that WLM could not be updated.

How can I stop the notification appearing?

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,
    Roy

Hi Roy, I have never seen the notification for a WLM update anywhere on my pc's including the system tray.
Your best plan would be to remove all Windows Essentials & reinstall using my link after rebooting.

Hi Roderunner, I hoped there might have been a way to stop the notification without uninstalling/reinstalling Windows Essentials, but as that's not the case I made an up to date image of my C drive and the Windows Live Mail message store, which is on my D drive, and then uninstalled/reinstalled. I restored the Windows Live Mail inbox messages and my storage folders from the backup image, and moved the message store to my D drive again, and no longer get the notification.

    Thanks and regards,
    Roy

I split the last post from Roy into its own thread in the Windows 7 forum.

I was offered the update, it installed perfectly FYI. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and downright angry that MS had not finally fixed WLM's inability to forward e-mails with embedded pictures. This is a problem that has gone on for at least three years, according to various forums. Just search for "windows live mail cannot forward pictures" and you will see how widespread this issue is. Users have come up with work-arounds that are not acceptable (ie. forward as an attachment). Do you know anything about any pending fixes? With all the great technology out there, there doesn't seem to be a decent e-mail client that doesn't have issues--amazing.

WLM has had some bugs since this update - occasionally the navigation tree gets corrupted and you need to close / relaunch the application.

And (a very minor point) but the tiny window image when you alt-tab has lost its application identifying icon (like the one you get in the taskbar).
