    want to go legal

    have laptop with non-legal copy of Win7. want to buy legal copy and install
    without losing all my data. is it possible to do a non-destructive re-install?

    You can just purchase a Valid Key from MS and then use the change product key process to get legal no reinstall required TTBOMK. HTH

    RG-thanks for the quick response. tried a few other forums before coming over
    to the Lounge, responses too convoluted. will try your suggestion, but since
    I'm not currently legal, will purchase OEM version of Win7 Ultimate from Tiger
    direct and then use your change product key procedure suggested above.

    Ya that's probably the way to go, I think Microsoft closed up shop late last year as far as directly selling a W7 key goes.

    thanks to you all - got copy of Win7 Ult from Tiger Direct - used RG's "change
    product key process" using legal key - worked like a charm. Now off to fight
    other battles ...
