    SkyDrive and OneDrive not wanted

I have Windows 8.1 pro on my laptop and have noticed that I have something called SkyDrive which is apparently changing to OneDrive .

I have no interest in cloud storage therefore I want to uninstall SkyDrive and stop OneDrive being installed on my laptop.

However, I canít find a way to uninstall SkyDrive.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

    Hi Joe
Thanks for the reply. Your link disables SkyDrive but does not uninstall it from my laptop. I would like to get rid of it completely therefore if you or anyone else have any ideas on uninstalling please let me know.

If you are talking about removing the apps, the desktop app can be uninstalled from the control panel, just like any other app and if you have a metro app, just right click it and choose uninstall.

With Windows 8.1 it is baked into the OS. You can't uninstall it. All you can do is disable the integration and get rid of the SkyDrive folder in File Explorer.

Is it OneDrive now on 8? Microsoft has already reached into my computer and changed the name on the desktop app.

There has not been a Windows update to change the name yet. Web has been changed. Mobile apps have been changed.

I also have 8.1 and tried to Disable SkyDrive Everywhere but when I typed gpedit.msc I received an error stating it couldn't be found. Anyone know why?

You might check now that OneDrive is out - is there an uninstall for it? Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a Program I believe I uninstalled it yesterday that way.....It's listed as Microsoft OneDrive.

You can d-l and install gpedit.msc from Microsoft. It does not come with some versions of Win 8.

Also - to get rid of SKyDrive, uninstall KB2923768. Bye-bye SkyDrive.

    Welcome to the Lounge.

I don't believe you can download gpedit from Microsoft. Gpedit is included in the Pro & Enterprise versions of Windows. Can you provide a download link?

Also, uninstalling KB2923768 does not get rid of SkyDrive. It just reverts to prior behavior - not displaying the sync icon in the notification area.

    Joe
