    resizing a thumb drive

My wife has an embroidery sewing machine that uses a thumb drive for transferring files from computer to machine. The documentation states that no USB memory stick over 512MB may be used as the sewing machine cannot access any larger drives. The drive she is using is over 5 years old and I would like to replace it. How can I reformat a new 2GB drive into using only 512MB? Thanks for any suggestions.

Does the old drive not work anymore? AFAIK....I don't think that's possible....although I've not attempted it. Replacing those can be quite daunting but checking Amazon.com I found a few....under that $10 range.

    Paul,

I would think you could use any good partitioning software to create a 512Mb Partition and then just leave the rest of the drive unallocated.
I just tested using EaseUS Partition Master on a 4Gb Sandisk Blade drive.

I couldn't get it to give me exactly 512Mb it wanted to make it 517 so I backed down to 508.

Thank you both for the excellent suggestions. I guess I did not realize they still make the smaller drives since I don't see them in stores.
