Win8.1 sees SSD as USB device

After upgrading from Win8 to 8.1, I noticed that my SSD, which holds the Windows partition, is listed as an USB device in the "Safely remove Hardware and eject Media" Notification Area Icon of the Taskbar flyout. While this is odd, it hasn't so far affected the running of my system.

Unfortunately, a Google search didn't yield any solution on how to correct this

    Any suggestions?.

I wouldn't worry about it. My Windows 7 main hard drive shows up in "safely remove hardware" as well.

Look for a chipset driver update, these can/should always be updated and installed.

It also might be just how your system's SATA controllers are set up to handle hot swapping.
Also noteworthy; run the "winsat.exe formal" command to ensure an upgrade installation properly recognizes the SSD and optimizes it for performance.
