Angry USB Thumb Drives - a rant

Why, oh why don't the manufacturer's spec sheets ever tell you how the drives are pre-formatted?

My car's USB music port only supports FAT or FAT32 formats.

Some brands come pre-formatted as EXFAT or sometimes as NTFS,
    and a few of them won't re-format to FAT32 in either Win7 or Win8.1.

    When you purchase, it's a crap-shoot -
until you plug it into the 'puter and right-click to view the drive properties.

    End of rant.....
Thank you; I feel much better now. (well, maybe)

    Rich,

Download EaseUs Partition Master Free. I've found it will reformat just about any USB Key. HTH

    Thumbs up

I'll give it a try and report back.

It works! You da man R_G.

Installed EPM free, using Custom option and being vigilant to uncheck the sneaky li'l add-ons.

Used it on this thumb drive that my car wouldn't recognise, which came EXFAT and wouldn't format to FAT32 under Windoze.
    http://www.patriotmemory.com/product...d=1288&type=11 64GB capacity.

Successfully formatted to FAT32 and copied about 2GB of MP3 files to it.
Now it plays from the USB music port in my car (2014 Kia Soul).

    The hamsters are happy!

    ***************************

Now I just hafta copy the remaining 42GB or so of MP3 files to it.
