    Windows Services

A couple of friends of mine are running Win 8.1 Pro. Both are getting the attached every time they start Outlook. they both say that it goes away after a few seconds.

    John,

How new, read powerful, is the hardware they are running Win 8.1 on? It sounds to me like that they are trying to start Outlook before all the services have been started. The referenced service is set to automatic start on my machine and I haven't changed it so that is the default. Have a look at the services list and see how this service is setup.

Also you don't mention the version of Outlook. I'm using 2010 and do not have this problem either on the laptop I'm currently using with Win 7 HP (Arrandale i-5 w/4GB & SSD) or my Desktop running Win 8.1 Pro (this machine is a Haswell i-7 w/12Gb and SSD). HTH

'RG' is correct. And I, also, suggest this...

    > Programs & Features
Find MS Office, highlight it & at the top of the window select Change (not Uninstall); this will give you a Repair option. Run that.

    Cheers,

    Hi, John.

Take a look at the below 2 links, the signs and symptoms look much like your screenshot shows:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...3-28de3d389b1a
    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-gr...ogon-windows-8

If that's not it, or doesn't fix it, there's a method here which you should be able to use to track down which associated Service is triggering the error: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...cess/#advanced
