mail merge invoice question - multiple lines *maybe* on some inoices?

ive used mailmerge before and know the basics of it. the problem im having is some of my documents wont have the same number of lines....

I would like to have an excel file with invoices. most invoices (80%) will be simple 1 line invoices.

    the excel file will have:
INVOICE #, QTY, DESCRIPTION, PRICE, EXT PRICE (price*QTY). easy, next line, next invoice.

the problem i have is some of them will have multiple lines. Can i insert a "pagebreak" in the excel file so it knows once it hits that section, the mail merge should goto a new document and start over till it hits another pagebreak?

or do i need to do the ones with multiple lines in another tab on the same excel file and run them through manually?

the one line ones are super easy, trying to find a solution for the others.

    thanks!

You can use Word's Catalogue/Directory Mailmerge facility for this (the terminology depends on the Word version). To see how to do so with any mailmerge data source supported by Word, check out my Microsoft Word Catalogue/Directory Mailmerge Tutorial at:
    http://windowssecrets.com/forums/sho...merge-Tutorial
(it's a Sticky thread at the top of this forum). The tutorial covers everything from list creation to the insertion & calculation of values in multi-record tables in letters. Do read the tutorial before trying to use the mailmerge document included with it.

For some worked examples, see the attachments to the posts at:

Alternatively, you may want to try one of the Many-to-One Mail Merge add-ins, from:
    Graham Mayor at http://www.gmayor.com/ManyToOne.htm; or
    Doug Robbins at https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=5aedc...615E886B%21566

In addition to a 'Many to One' merge, the latter handles:
    • Merge with Charts
    • Duplex Merge
    • Merge with FormFields
    • Merge with Attachments
    • Merge to Individual Documents
    • Merge, Print and Staple

Given how much useful information in the tutorial and the other links, perhaps you should start there... These are complex processes and take time to master.

I have literaly spent days trying to figure it out. I feel like I am doing everything the tutorial is doing, but don't get the results. Is it possible that I have a setting wrong somewhere?

    Thanks !!

Well, yes, which is why you need to pay careful attention to everything the tutorial says, including in the Introduction. You should also experiment with the sample data source & mailmerge main document, so as to get a better idea of how things work.
