Don't know, but from many posts and sources Norton Anti Virus is near the top of the tree, whereas McAfee is the, er, roots.
AVG beats 'em all, as it has the added enormous advantage that it's free.

Ah, but you *do* get what you pay for! Try checking into the Command AntiVirus as well, at http://www.commandcom.com or take a look at the F-Prot engine it uses at http://www.f-prot.com/f-prot/

MQ I have recently cleaned two machines that had been infected by the Magistr strains - from memory - which disabled Mcafee. No matter how much jigging and rejigging we did it would not run. In the end I ran Trends online scanner and then downloaded AVG. In one case my client took back his Mcafee and got his money back. My

Sadly, for some reason AVG is not free if you live in continental Europe - ang I live in Portugal...
Do you know any other freebie equivalent - I'm using NAV, but need to renew shortly and I'm not that happy with it - got a bad infection from a CD someone sent me and it took 4 hours to clean my computer using NAV (which let the virus in in the first place!!)

Hi Ken
Yes, the AVG restriction is a bit of a bummer. You could get in touch and complain. I'm not aware of any other free VS that comes anywhere near it, apart from the now discontinued InoculateIt.
