slow opening apps on windows 8.1

    Hello,
I am new to windows 8.1 and would like some advice.
Once I open an app, (mail,facebook,weather.com) it seems to take a while for it to open.
I have timed it and some times it takes as long as a minute.
I'm guessing windows 8.1 is self checking it self, perhaps that is why it takes so long ?

    Thanks for any help,

I don't find that at all. Perhaps you could share your hardware specs.

    My hardware is as follows:
Intel Core i5-4200 CPU@ 1.60HHz, 8.0GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics
    MS Windows 8.1 64-bit

Once I turn the laptop on and after I sign in, the page with all the tiles comes up quickly. However, if I try to access say the news (from the Bing app) it doe snot come up immediately. If I switch to my desktop app and say type in gmail, it goes there right away.

Could there be a start event in the tiles startup page which is slowing them down?
Any help would be appreciated. This is not a serious issue, I'm just think the apps should open as quickly.

I'd let things load, especially if these start screen apps need to access the internet to update themselves.
    Try toggling metered bandwidth.

There might be a few other things to look at here:
