Spreadsheet opens in IE5.5 Excel Won't Close on Ex (Office 97 SR 1 & IE5.5

    Hi,

I was wondering if somebody can help me solve the following problem.
We have an Excel workbook saved on our local Inrtranet site which is opened up using IE5.5. Once the user has finished using the spreadsheet they then close down the IE5.5 browser window, however after this has happened nobody else can use the workbook.

I have noticed that Excel.exe is running in the background and once the browser is closed Excel remain opens. Is there an easy way to close Excel at the same time the browser is closed????

    Thanks in advance

    Phil

    Hello

Are you using ASP to instantiate Excel here?
If so, the Intranet page probably has something like

    set objExcel=CreateObject("Excel.Application")

If so, then once you have finished with Excel you need to clean up, like so:

    .application.quit
    set objExcel=nothing

This should close the instance of Excel you have found in the background.

    I hope this is relevant - more info here: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.aspalliance.com/nothingmn/Default.asp?aid=77>http://www.aspalliance.com/nothingmn/Default.asp?aid=77</A>
