Importing XP games to Windows 8.1

I miss the various Microsoft games I had in Windows XP which came with the O/S. (Minesweeper, Solitaire, etc...)

Two questions: How might I transfer those from my old hard drives (taken out of XP, upgraded Vista machines)? and,
Since I'm not using the licenses on the older machines, would I be violating some Microsoft license, interest, etc. by installing them on my new (Windows [now] 8.1) machine?

(The games resided in their own folders with some (apparently) specialized files associated with each game.

You don't like the free Xbox versions of Minesweeper and Solitaire which are available from the Windows Store in 8.1?

This worked for Windows 7... I have no idea whether it will also work for Windows 8.1...

Create a folder, say XPGames, on the Windows 7 box.

From the C:\Windows\System32 folder on the XP box, copy the following files to the XP Games folder on the Win 7 box:

cards.dll (very important... otherwise the card games won't work)
    freecell.chm
    freecell.exe
    mshearts.chm
    mshearts.exe
    sol.chm
    sol.exe
    spider.chm
    spider.exe
    winmine.chm
    winmine.exe
(The .CHM files are only needed if you want the Help files.)

If you also want Pinball then copy the entire Pinball folder from C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball\ on the XP box, including the following files, to the XPGames folder on the Win 7 box:
    FONT.DAT
    pinball.chm
    PINBALL.DAT
    PINBALL.EXE
    PINBALL.MID
    PINBALL2.MID
    SOUND1.WAV
    SOUND104.WAV
    SOUND105.WAV
    SOUND108.WAV
    SOUND111.WAV
    SOUND112.WAV
    SOUND12.WAV
    SOUND13.WAV
    SOUND131.WAV
    SOUND136.WAV
    SOUND14.WAV
    SOUND16.WAV
    SOUND17.WAV
    SOUND18.WAV
    SOUND181.WAV
    SOUND19.WAV
    SOUND20.WAV
    SOUND21.WAV
    SOUND22.WAV
    SOUND24.WAV
    SOUND240.WAV
    SOUND243.WAV
    SOUND25.WAV
    SOUND26.WAV
    SOUND27.WAV
    SOUND28.WAV
    SOUND29.WAV
    SOUND3.WAV
    SOUND30.WAV
    SOUND34.WAV
    SOUND35.WAV
    SOUND36.WAV
    SOUND38.WAV
    SOUND39.WAV
    SOUND4.WAV
    SOUND42.WAV
    SOUND43.WAV
    SOUND45.WAV
    SOUND49.WAV
    SOUND49D.WAV
    SOUND5.WAV
    SOUND50.WAV
    SOUND528.WAV
    SOUND53.WAV
    SOUND54.WAV
    SOUND55.WAV
    SOUND560.WAV
    SOUND563.WAV
    SOUND57.WAV
    SOUND58.WAV
    SOUND6.WAV
    SOUND65.WAV
    SOUND68.WAV
    SOUND7.WAV

The folder on the Windows 7 box should look like this:
    games.jpg

You should now be able to run any of the XP games on the Windows 7 box.

    Hope this helps...

Actually, I don't trust the phone home nature of microsoft's new stuff. I haven't taken the time to see what information is shared.

[Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get me.]

I don't like Charms nor the touchy(-feely) nature of 8.1. (No touch screen; I'm a keyboard and little bit o' mouse sort of guy).
