    Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

    What have I done to Windows Explorer to mess up thumbnail displays.........see screenshot. I can't find anywhere a setting that controls the display of thumbnails such that some default image appears rather than a thumbnail of the image file content itself. As you can see from the screenshot, I get some sort of default image in the thumbnail rather than a thumbnail of the image within the file. (png default image different than the jpg)

    Control Panel, Folder Options, View, (Advanced Settings, Files and Folders), Always show icons, never thumbnails (uncheck):
