Disappearing pages (office 2000 premium)

Windows 98 SE, Office 2000 Premium

When Word, E xcel, Publisher loads after a few seconds the page disappears. Anyone knows how this can be fixed?.

Do you mean the new blank page disappears? - or if you open a specific file, it disappears?

Leif,

Whenever I start up Word and it gets to its new page it stays there for a few seconds a than disappears to my windows startup screen (the one with all the icons).
The same for Excel and Publisher)
Hope this helps.

You mean the whole application closes?
You start Word, a new page appears, then Word closes down and you are back to your desktop?
Does this happen if you double-click an existing document?
Has it just started happening / is this a new installation?

Yes, that is right I go directly back to my desktop. It happens wheteher I single click or double click.
This has just started to happen. I never before had this problem.
Please bear with me, I'm a 60 yr old getting to know computers.

No problem

To be honest, no immediate idea other than you may have run out of temporary storage space.
There are others out there with more experience in this, but let's try and get the ball rolling:

What operating system?
How much Ram do you have?
How much spare space on your hard disc?
Using Explorer, find a folder called temp. How many files are in it? (Bottom left of the Explorer window should give you a file count.)
Is it full of files beginning with "~"?

Re: Disappearing pages (office 2000 premium)

Hi Cees,

Just a couple of questions regarding your problem. You said in one of your postings:

Whenever I start up Word and it gets to its new page it stays there for a few seconds a than disappears to my windows startup screen (the one with all the icons).

When you say windows startup screen, are you meaning the Task Bar at the bottom of the main window (this is where all of the running programs can be seen as buttons)? If this is the case, it may well be that your shortcuts to the programs have somehow been changed to Run Minimised. Open the properties for the programs you are trying to start and have a look at the Shortcut tab. What is the entry alongside the Run: section (this will be one of Normal Window, Minimized or Maximized).

Of course I might be misreading your problem entirely and the programs are closing down completely, it is just that from your postings I got the impression that they were not closing entirely, but just minimizing.

Please let me know if I am way off track with this.

Cheers,

Francois,

Thanks for your help. I downloaded it. had a good look. Decided that using the Registry is for computer literate.
Did uninstall Office 2000 and reinstalled, and voila it
worked. No more problems!

Thank Leif and Francois.

Re: Disappearing pages (office 2000 premium)

Barry G,

My programs were disappearing completely.
As I mentioned in an earlier response I solved the problem by completely uninstalling and re-installing office 2000 (after some input from other forum contributors). Not bad for an old bloke.

Regards

Cees
