    Mbam pro

Would appreciate any comments on likes, dislikes on the change of MBAM or ideas why it comes with malicious malware website protection disabled or if running just one scan every 24 hrs. is adequate or any other thoughts also why does the icon in the tray have a red dot on it. Thanks, Phil.

Scanning your computer for malware every day is overkill IMO. This implies you do things every day that jeopardise the security of your computer and that should never be the case - you should be practising safe hex. If you need to visit malicious web site you should use a sandboxed browser that doesn't save any settings.

    cheers, Paul

I like you new GUI. It also has a rootkit search built in now but you have to enable it in the settings.

I noticed that also but I figured I would wait for one of the more knowledgeable people to comment.

With the latest MBAM, what does "enable self-protection" do; and, does it require a lot of system resources to provide that self-protection?
    Thanks,
    Dick

    Dick,

The Self-Protection option prevents malware from disabling MBAM itself. For instance, I wanted to delete the MBAM desktop shortcut and it would NOT allow me to do so until I turned OFF the Self-Protection option. I could then delete the shortcut and re-enable the Self-Protetion. I'm sure it does use some resources but I don't think it is noticeable and this is a feature you really do want to enable! HTH

Unfortunately I can not show you the red dot that is on MBAM in the tray I cannot turn on the malicious Malware protection web site also maybe it is because I am using Emsisoft.

If you have Window 7 you can use the built-in "Snipping Tool" to copy the tray icon to a png/jpeg and post it here.

    cheers, Paul

It's not as though you only have a limited number of scans, and then run out. The Malwarebytes Premium (formerly Pro) license is a lifetime license, with all future updates free. Scan as often as you like.

FWIW, I have MBAM set for a daily scan, a signature update every 3 hours. I also have Windows Defender setup in Task Scheduler to run a signature update twice a day, run a quick scan daily and a full scan weekly.

I've cleaned up plenty of infected PC's; I don't want mine to be one of them.

Create a new drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!

Save the snipped picture as a png to a local directory, then attach it via the "Insert Image" icon in the standard quick reply box.

    cheers, Paul

Thanks for that info Paul. I will have to try it. Fortunately for me I had to do a restore because I committed the unpardonable sin of allowing one of my kids to use my computer and it was back to before the new MBAM was downloaded and evidently it hadn't gone properly the first time and it didn't enable the malicious malware site protection and wouldn't let me do it either. So now with a new download it is activated and no red dot on the tray icon so now we know why the red dot, it doesn't have root kit activated either but I run Emsisoft and it has it. I have my MBAM scheduled just about the same as you do. Thank you for your help and the benefit of your knowledge. Good luck, Phil.

You have to enable the root kit feature in the new Malwarbytes through the settings option under the detection/protection tab. The same for the the malicious website protection under advanced settings along with the self protection module.
