Error Message: This is not a Genuine Copy of Windows

I have started getting the above error message after 2 years of using this computer. It is genuine, I have the original Windows operating disc and Activation code. How do I manage to reactivate windows?

    LadyC,

You'll have to give MS a call. HTH

Thanks - I did contact Microsoft and after being on the chat line with an agent in tech for 40 minutes, they told me I would have to pay $149 and buy their service package to fit it.
I think I will just format and reload, though I hate to think of all the wasted time.

That is nuts. Did this start happening after you applied a Microsoft update? Support for update issues is free.

For some reason, I get the same message from time to time.
    I go to:
    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/val...ontrol=install
    and revalidate that way.
So far, it has always worked for me.
I hope it does for you also.
    Best,
    Dick

Thank you - I got part way thru this but it was not downloading anything when I got to the download screen but will try it again later when I have more time. Sur hope it will work then as it would be much easier than a reinstall.

I think you searched for Microsoft Support but did not end up speaking with the real Microsoft.

Try the steps (online or phone) at Activate Windows 7 on this computer

I actually ran into this just yesterday. Randomly told me that a machine that was activated and working fine, suddenly was not "Genuine" Windows. I went and got the OD and re-entered the code into the activation box, and it worked again. Have you tried just re-entering your existing code?

It doesn't actually give me the chance to re-enter it as every time I go to the computer properties, it tells me that my version is activated. But 1/2 hour later the same not genuine message comes up.

Makes you wonder if MS is doing something to try to get you to buy the next version.

You could try the automated Microsoft Fix it under Resolution, Scenario 2 at "Windows is not genuine" error in Windows 7

I have tried this one too, so now I guess it is just a wait and see if the error message comes up again.

I have tried all of the above - thank you to everyone. Now will just have to see if the error message comes up again or not. So far 1 hour and no repeat of the error message.
