    Can't Open Workbook - Encryption Scheme (97 SR-2)

I created a password protected Workbook that was distributed to colleagues in Europe. When they try to open the workbook, they get the following message: "This workbook has been password protected with an encryption scheme not available in this region. This workbook cannot be opened."

I don't even know where to start researching a solution to this issue.

    Re: Can't Open Workbook - Encryption Scheme (97 SR-2)

It sounds like you protected the workbook on a USA system that has 128 bit encryption. It used to be illegal to export software from the USA that had more than 40 bit encryption. Therefore, someone in europe what has older international software can't open the workbook since it is encrypted with the 128 bit algorythm. The only solution that I know of would be to get a copy of the international version of Excel an protect the software using that.
