    Internet connection problem

For various reasons I have just performed a clean reinstallation of Win 7 Pro and Win 8 Pro. In Win 8 I have no problem connecting to the internet, but I have no internet connection in Win 7.

Advice as to how to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

That always used to be a problem with XP and earlier OS versions, XP never had drivers for the NIC's.
Are there any question marks in Device Manager that may indicate there is an unrecognized device?
If so, you could verify what NIC Win 8 has discovered and download a Win 7 driver for it, then switch over to Win 7 and install it.

    Good luck!

I downloaded and installed the Intel PRO Win 7 x64 application, and that solved the Win 7 internet connection problem. However, Device Manager shows that no driver is installed for the SM Bus Controller, and I don't know where to look for that. Any ideas?

I think that's covered by your chipset drivers if Intel but it would be your video drivers for AMD - but either will be found at your computer support site or motherboard support site if Home build.

Not sure if Windows would find it for you if you right clicked on it and selected Update Driver Software.

I installed Intel Chipset drivers and that solved the problem.
