Ive noticed lately that when I close an app from the metro, my RT device switches to desktop. I don't want that, I want to go back to metro. Did I possibly change a setting somewhere or what may be going on. the only recent change to my environment is the updating of my Windows phone to8.1. the only association that I can confirm there is that my favorites match.

    Thanks

Try this - go to the desktop, right click on the task bar, select properties, click on navigation, ensure that the first checkbox in the start screen section "When I sign in or close..." is not checked.
